Announcing the agreement Sir Richard emphasised his delight to bring the Land Rover on board as the first partner of Virgin Galactic.

In fact at the core of both companies, you’ll find a pioneering spirit of discovery underpinned by technical innovation.” The UK born billionaire summed up.

To add to his usual drama, Sir Richard Branson as well as representatives from Land Rover and Virgin Galactic were present on the deck of the now retired aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid now moored on the Hudson River to make the presentation. Now a museum dedicated to the exploration of sea, air and space, the Intrepid was utilised during the early days of US Space flight to pick up the crews and capsules from both the Mercury and Gemini space programs.

This time around the deck of the Intrepid, held Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo, described as the world’s first commercial passenger carrying spacecraft, alongside Land Rover’s recently launched Discovery Vision Concept vehicle, which was put on commercial display for the first time at the New York Auto Show held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. The show is due to run from Wednesday 16th April and will close on Sunday April 27th.
