Golf World goes solely digital

A sign of the times for golf lovers everywhere is the news that the sport’s most popular and longest running magazine, the Golf World magazine is closing down its print version and will now only be offering a digital media version, as an integral part of the Golf Digest website.

The Golf World magazine, which is owned by the massive Conde Nast publishing giant has been published since 1947.

Conde Nast has now decided that instead of publishing a print magazine, which was released no less than 31 times a year, Golf World, will better serve their subscribers by being issued in the form a weekly email newsletter, released every Monday.

In addition to the weekly e-mail, subscribers will be able to log onto Golf World’s website where they can readily access daily updates of what’s happening in the world of golf. For those who still prefer to digest their golf news in print, subscribers will be sent a monthly copy of Conde Nast ‘s Golf Digest.

According to a spokesperson from Conde Nast, the editorial and management team at Golf World magazine recognise that they are making a major change in how their loyal subscribers have digested their golf news over the last 57 years, but are convinced that this latest development will allows for an increase in frequency, improvement in delivery time, as well as adding video reporting which will infinitely improve the experience for today’s followers of golf.

The print version of Golf World enjoyed a circulation of 213,387 during the last six months of 2013, down slightly from the same period in 2012. More significant for Conde Nast, was the fact that Print ad pages have been showing a gradual drop, in some editions down by more than 25 % from the same edition last year.

Golf World Editor-in-Chief Jaime Diaz will keep his title and lead the combined news-division team, with the new digital product making its debut on Monday, July 28th.
