Air Canada set to launch a flight service to Rio de Janeiro

Air Canada recently revealed plans to launch a non-stop service between Toronto and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The non-stop flights are due to get underway in December 2014 and from then onwards will be a permanent feature, complementing Air Canada’s existing daily non-stop service to Sao Paulo.

Flights will depart from Toronto on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, at 22.55 local time and land in Rio at 12.25 local time the following day, making for a total flight time of around eleven and a half hours. The return service from Rio will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, departing at 21.45 local time and arriving in Toronto at 05. 45 the next day.

Benjamin Smith, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada expressed the company’s pleasure at being the only passenger carrier company offering non-stop flights between Canada and Rio de Janeiro. While the service comes in operation too late to take advantage of the forthcoming World Cup, it will be well in place in time for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Apart from these one-of attractions, business travellers from Canada and Brazil, one of the largest and most vibrant economies in the world, will be able to take advantage of the one-stop flight, as well as a long list of convenient connections from Air Canada’s network of international flights departing from their Toronto Pearson hub, including to Tokyo-Haneda, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

Initially, Air Canada will operate these flights three days a week, beginning from the 11th of December using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, providing 24 International Business Class seats as well as 187 Economy. All incoming flights to Rio will be timed to coordinate with international and domestic connections taking off from from Galeão – Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, through Air Canada’s interline partners.

Air Canada’s Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will be offering International Business Class passengers access to Air Canada’s famous International Maple Leaf Lounge as well as the luxury of lie flat seats during the flight and the best of concierge services. For all passengers, complimentary seatback entertainment will be available throughout the flight.
